Freedom of expression and political reforms are prerequisites to achieve sustainable development both social and economical in any country.
If we wish to build a modern and prosperous country that have a prominent place in the international community we should work to establish and maintain rule of law and respect for human rights .
We had hope that reforms will take place, but the crackdown on free thinkers and human rights activists comes as a definite sign that if we want democracy we should work to achieve it , the authorities are not willing to concede any thing to the people.
And it is time we start to raise our voices and regain our freedoms and civil rights.
I would like to thank Fares for his efforts in upholding the cause of political prisoners in Syria and campaigning for their freedom.
Thanks also for Philip I for the following links : Amnesty International's index page on Syria
press release by www.article19.org, the Global Campaign for Free Expression.
It is our responsibility to not forget the brave intellectuals who are suffering from injustice and horrible detention conditions,
and we demand their immediate release.
